Final Call for Warren "Skip" Highwood

Former Chesterton Fire Chief Warren "Skip" Highwood was laid to rest Jan. 26, 2009. Highwood retired Dec 31, 2008, after 46 years in the fire service with the last 18 as Chesterton's fire chief. I was honored to have the opportunity to document his last call.


A firefighter cookie jar is held by interim Chesterton Fire Chief Mike Orlich while waiting for the casket of former Chesterton Fire Chief Warren "Skip" Highwood to be brought out of St Patrick Catholic Church Monday morning in Chesterton. The cookie jar would sit full of candy on Highwood’s desk and whenever a visiting child would come into the firehouse, they would visit the "sucker chief" for candy.
